Because this space is usually at the core of a welcoming and comfortable home, the living room decor has to be just right. This is where family members spend time together, where friends gather to chat and play board games, where one can relax and watch a movie. Not everyone has the same ideas when it comes to what function this space should fulfill and not all living rooms are the same. In fact, each one is different in its own way, featuring elements which make it special and unique.
Stripes are often used to emphasize a room’s shape or to make a space appear larger or more spacious. One of the strategies is to use a striped area rug in a narrow living room in order to take advantage of its shape and layout instead of trying to conceal these elements, perceiving them as disadvantages.
Another strategy is to emphasize the height of the room. Having a living room with a double height ceiling is definitely an advantage in this case. You can further highlight that by displaying long curtains and a low hanging chandelier or pendant lamp. Arent & Pike had the right idea when designing this space.
There are two types of people: those that prefer a fabric sofa in their living room and those that enjoy more a leather sofa or couch. Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages. Leather furniture tends to look more elegant, sober and imposing whereas fabric upholstery makes it look more casual.
