By exposing this living room to the outdoors and minimizing the barriers between the spaces, this area became a lot brighter and feels a lot more spacious, even though the two sofas framing the coffee table take up most of its floor space. Black and white is a popular and timeless color combination, often used in living rooms. You can’t really go wrong with this combo regardless of the style chosen for the interior design. A similar result can be achieved with combination of light and dark colors.
Frame your fireplace with a set of built-in shelves. This is a great way to create a feature wall in a living room. Feature walls look best when they are symmetrical, so make your shelving units equal in size. In the living room design above, we used open shelves. You can also add doors to cover the lower portion for closed storage. Add a pair of sconces and a mirror or painting above the fireplace to complete the look.
