Depending on the square footage of living space in your home, you may or may not have the luxury of a separate family room. The family room plays a different role in the home than the living room (although some homes effectively and seamlessly combine the two, due to space constraints). Where the living room tends to be more formal and geared toward entertaining and visits, the family room in general has more of a lounge feel.
Finding a suitable design strategy for a living room takes time. Let’s say you want your small living room to appear larger and more spacious. There are plenty of possibilities you could adopt. Using large mirrors is one of them.
Try a dark wall color for bold living room update. Dark walls create an intimate and inviting feeling in a room. They are great for living rooms, libraries, dining rooms and bedrooms. When you use a dark color on the walls, keep the floor and ceiling finishes lighter. The deep blue wall color in this living room highlights the coffee table, making it the focus of the room. Use this technique to show off a special table or beautiful display of objects.
A casual living room is often defined by the presence of lightweight furniture, simple and bright colors and the use of simple patterns and forms. The lack of big and robust pieces of furniture allow the décor to look fresh and airy while everything else makes the room look particularly comfortable.
