If you’re looking for a new way to redecorate your kitchen but don’t want to spend a lot of money on new furniture, look at what you can do with what you have. Painting your kitchen table and chairs is a great way to refresh your look and can be done in less than a week. Use these tips to get started on your next DIY paint project.
If you’re looking to give your modern kitchen a vintage look on a budget, consider hanging prints. There are many varieties of kitchen prints available. Consider adding them in a set or certain theme. Creating a small gallery wall of prints can truly transform your space. Vintage garden prints or old café prints are the perfect décor item. Be sure to add a frame that’s fitting for the look. Thick, dark wood frames or a distressed white frame will dress these prints up beautifully and look great on your kitchen wall.
If you’re anything like me, my biggest struggle in the kitchen is organizing plastic storage containers in my cabinets. After all, if you lose one of the two parts, the storage container is virtually useless. Invest in containers of various sizes to fit food leftovers of all kinds. However, you should only keep about 10 to 12 containers for food storage. Any more can cause clutter. Get rid of any that aren’t uniform to the rest or an odd shape. Try to stack like containers when you can with the lids underneath. Additionally, you may want to invest in a small cabinet shelf to help sort different size containers from the rest, or lids from containers. Of course, our cabinets are used for much more than simply organizing plastic storage containers.
If you’re happy with your paint job, you could stop here. Adding a layer of polyurethane gloss finish is completely optional. It’s helpful to protect your paint job against spills and chips, adding a finished look to your DIY project. It’s best to use a brush specifically for polyurethane or varnish to avoid unsightly brushstrokes. Dust off the table and chairs once the paint is dry to remove any debris such as dust, pet hair or dirt. This will show through very clearly once the polyurethane is applied. Next, paint on the finish evenly and let sit.
